Huntington Pointe Newport New Virginia

www.MrWilliamsburg.comThe Newport News Planning Commission unanimously voted to recommend approval of the rezoning of about 220 acres north of Denbigh Boulevard for the proposed Huntington Pointe development.

Huntington Pointe,  will offer  2,550 single-family homes, town houses, condominiums and apartments to the area. The mixed-use development will also include retail stores, offices and an about four-mile nature trail and numerous neighborhoods parks.

A crucial part of the project will include a four-lane $7 million connector road between Denbigh and Fort Eustis boulevards, paid by the developer.

When complete Huntington Pointe, a neighborhood that will bring 510 single-family homes and 2,040 town houses, condominiums and apartments to 221 acres north of Denbigh Boulevard.

A key feature of Huntington Pointe is the developer’s promise to build and pay for a $7 million, four-lane connector road, called Independence Boulevard, between Denbigh and Fort Eustis boulevards to ease traffic on Route 17 and Jefferson Avenue. A pedestrian and bike trail will run parallel to the road, “The development, which will take about 20 years to build out, follows the planning concept of new urbanism, which is similar to Port Warwick, New Town and High Street. The concept calls for a mixed-use community of homes and businesses, and developers pattern the neighborhoods after small towns and cities before World War II.Huntington Pointe will include a four-mile trail and numerous neighborhood parks. The trail will be designed to resemble the Noland Trail at The Mariners’ Museum Park and include overlooks, wooden bridges and interpretive signage to educate people about the Grafton ponds in the area. .
