Twenty Five Things About Virginia ( The State)

(This, as a lot of you already know, started out as a Facebook meme)

The difference is this one is written as if the State of Virginia was the Author !

Twenty-five random things about me ( The State of Virginia )

1. I’m known for my cardinals, dogwoods, foxhounds and brook trout.
2. I lay claim to the Civil War as more battles were waged on me than any other state.
3. My state parks were voted "America’s Best".
4. "America’s Favorite Drive" is my Blue Ridge Parkway. Find some jewels along the way like Peaks of Otter and Mabry Mill.
5. Thomas Jefferson designed my State Capitol, the Rotunda at UVA, and his own homes of Monticello and Poplar Forest.
6. I have unselfishly provided eight United States presidents. My first was yours, too. George Washington indeed slept here!
7. You can visit five of my "kissing bridges". That’s authentic timber-covered bridges, if you didn’t know.
8. Some of your childhood favorites came from me … Mr. Peanut (Suffolk), Eskimo Pie (Richmond), Girl Scout Cookies (Richmond), Northern Neck Ginger Ale (Montross), Dr. Pepper (a Rural Retreat Dr.’s name-sake), Route 11 Potato Chips (Middletown), Misty of Chincoteague (duh!), The Waltons (Schuyler), Edgar Allen Poe (Richmond), and NASA (Hampton)
9. I have one of NASCAR’s first tracks and its shortest in Martinsville Speedway.
10. You can visit five "kissing bridges" when you come see me. That’s a covered timberframe bridge, if you didn’t know.
11. Birds migrate over my Eastern Shore on a path called the Atlantic Flyway. The best place to bird-watch is Kiptopeke State Park.
12. I have more B&Bs than you can shake a stick at. 565 at last count!
13. Travel + Leisure Magazine recognized me as one of the up and coming wine regions! Visit my more than 130 wineries on your next trip.
14. I’ve got this cool new thing where people who live here want to speak up and tell everyone how great it is. They’ve been dubbed "Portraits of Passion". You should get on my site – www.Virginia.org – to look ‘em up and see what they have to say.
15. Want to see the largest caverns on the East Coast? Look no further than my Luray Caverns.
16. If you’re into music, you need to travel The Crooked Road. You’ll visit more than 90 attractions and more than 240 outdoor recreation sites. It’s Appalachian heritage at its finest.
17. All roads lead back to Virginia and most of our roots can be mapped the same way. The Wilderness Road: Virginia’s Heritage Migration Route was the primary route taken by early settlers before heading west.
18. If you haven’t eaten one of my Chesapeake Bay Blue Crabs, you are really missing out!
19. Presidents aren’t the only movers and shakers I’ve given this country. How about the first African-American Governor, Lewis & Clark, Cyrus McCormick and Booker T. Washington? (And that ain’t even half of ‘em!)
20. I have a new "green" program. Stay in green hotels, dine in green restaurants, and attend green events. I’m eco-friendly and proud of it!
21. People have been telling me that I’m "for Lovers" since 1969. I guess it’s because I offer so many things that people love to do and experience.
22. Speaking of 1969, I’m hosting 40 free vacations this year in honor of that whole "Virginia is for Lovers" thing. Visit me at www.Virginia.org/40 to enter to win!
23. My fall foliage is out of this world!
24. Whales migrate off my coast. Take a cruise to try to get some face time.
25. You can read all about me in this thing my caretakers call a Travel Guide. Request one here – http://www.virginia.org/site/main.asp?Referrer=publications&id=10&ref=brochure
