Williamsburg James City County Schools Superintendent Gary Mathews has announced that he is actively seeking a new job. He made the announcement in a letter e-mailed to the entire school division.
Mathews also said he was one of four finalists for Mississippi’s State Superintendent of Schools, but apparently lost out to Tom Burnham, Dean of the School of Education at the University of Mississippi.
Upon learning of the decision, Mathews told WJC "I will seek other opportunities in the future, while providing our School Board with ample time to be thinking about, and ultimately seeking, my replacement whenever that might be in the coming months."

Why is he so anxious to leave?
Maybe he doesnt want to fight a board that doesnt agree with him.
Seriously it’s a shame that we can’t get a superintendent to stay any longer. Steve Staples was in York County for over 15 years.
