College of William and Mary senior Kira Allmann has been selected one of 32 American Rhodes scholars for 2010.
The scholarship is one of the world’s highest academic awards.
Rhodes scholars attend Oxford University in England. Allmann will begin her studies in October and plans to pursue a master’s of philosophy in modern Middle Eastern studies.
Allmann, a government and linguistics major, is the sixth W&M student to receive the honor.
Since her freshman year, Allmann has been a James Monroe Scholar at the school. She has studied Arabic at the Al Akhawayn University in Morocco and architecture and art history at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.
The Williamsburg resident also serves as president of several honor societies.
The scholarship includes all college fees, provides a stipend to cover necessary expenses while in Oxford, and transportation to and from England.
