What the heck is Start Peninsula ?

The concept started in the Hampton Roads region last year with "Start Norfolk" — a competition aimed at getting would-be entrepreneurs off to a flying start.

Now comes Start!Peninsula, whose goal is to create a dozen news businesses in 54 hours.

START! Peninsula is a new regionally-sponsored entrepreneurial initiative coming this November to our area, and is modeled after many other Startup Weekends being held across the country.

imageThe goal of Start Peninsula is to catalyze the creation of high tech/high growth potential businesses by bringing all of the resources (ideas, technical expertise, business expertise, capital) together on one weekend, to identify the most viable ideas and to invest resources in those ideas over an intensive weekend to jumpstart the businesses into going concerns. Start! Peninsula builds on the success and continues the momentum of previous regional “Start” events in Richmond and Hampton Roads.

Designed to capitalize on the proximity of Hampton University, Christopher Newport University, The College of William and Mary, Jefferson Lab, The National Institute of Aerospace and NASA’s Langley Research Center, it is our goal to create almost a dozen businesses in one weekend and over the next three years to change the way people on the Peninsula and Hampton Roads regionally think about entrepreneurship and the role it plays in the local economy.

If you have an idea that solves a problem and that, if turned into a product or service, people would buy, if you have money to invest, or if you have experience or talent you are willing to invest in the effort, then Start! Peninsula is for you. Plan to attend Start! Peninsula the weekend of November 30th, 2012 at

Newport News, VA 23606
