Chesapeake and Crescent-Kilmarnock
It’s not unusual to find customers sitting and chatting in Paula Thomasson’s two-story showroom. Custom upholstered sofas, sectionals and chairs from Lee are both handsome and comfy. Soft, color-drenched area rugs define each of the many room settings. And the patina of hand-rubbed wood and hand-painted finishes exude warmth. Paula will imbue a two-bedroom house with a den, formal living and dining rooms, full kitchen and screen porch with “warm and classic, clean-lined and inviting” style.
The Pedestal-Kilmarnock
Pam Deihl and her daughters Mary Beth and Wendy will also decorate a two-bedroom home at RWC, this one with a sunroom. Their sophisticated shop window displays, which are known to stop traffic on Main Street, attest to a refined style that doesn’t take itself too seriously. “Our customers trust us to coordinate the materials and workmanship that make their homes as lovely to look at as they are to live in,” explained Pam. “When we visit a home or look at a blueprint, we don’t see just a house, we see the people who will be living there.”
Interior Innovations-White Stone
Interior designer Nancy Myers calls her style “coastal ease living” and she’s applied it to thousands of residential and commercial projects in eastern Virginia since 1981. Her shop is bursting with colorful, comfortable furniture, rugs and accessories from the many suppliers she’s discovered and developed relationships with over the years. Nancy plans to use soft yellow walls and fine area rugs from Safavieh and Martha Stewart to set the stage for her showcase, a large, light-filled cottage with interesting architectural details.
Nunnally’s Floors and Decorating with Northern Neck Home and Garden-Warsaw
Dianne Nunnally Thorn will give a one-bedroom cottage a “traditional look with a twist,” drawing on her 10,000 square foot showroom’s vast selection of area rugs, flooring, furniture, custom window treatments, wallpaper and decorative accents. Among the “twists” Dianne has in store for showcase goers are a glamorous mirrored chest and walls coated in eco-friendly zero-VOC paint from Sally Fretwell. The living room opens out onto a patio that Northern Neck Home and Garden will festoon with flowers, outdoor furniture and garden accessories.
ReArrangements, Brocante Home-Irvington
Brocante Home’s Rachel Pugliese and Ann Carpenter of ReArrangements, a Certified Interior Refiner who gives decorating classes at Brocante Home, are teaming up to decorate a one-bedroom cottage that opens onto a hedge-enclosed, terrace with an old country feel. Distressed and hand-painted furniture, old-fashioned iron garden pieces, elegant chandeliers, European decorative accessories and subtle scents will give their showcase French country style and vintage charm.
Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury is a 165-acre, top-drawer retirement community, with a variety of elegant home styles. “RWC is the perfect venue for the Northern Neck’s inaugural decorator showcase,” said Micki Clay, who is coordinating the showcase. “The grounds and gardens are lovely, the homes are spacious and well-appointed, the food is fabulous, there’s plenty of parking and even a shuttle for those who’d rather ride than walk. Where else could we showcase so much river style?”
