New Ads air for Colonial Williamsburg

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so the saying goes. A campaign for a historic Virginia attraction is looking to imitate the success of the now-infamous "Pure Michigan" ad campaign. And what better way to recreate that success than by going straight to the source?
The Birmingham-based McCann Erickson agency was hired to create a new campaign for Colonial Williamsburg, an attraction which recreates 18th-century Virginia. They were hired in large part because of the appeal of their "Pure Michigan" campaign.

The campaign now under way is asking consumers to consider something revolutionary in this economy: spending money on leisure travel.

The “Pure Michigan” campaign, with commercials that feature of the voice of the comedian — and Michigan native — Tim Allen, has been widely deemed one of the most effective efforts of its kind these days in generating tourism dollars. The idea is that if McCann Erickson can sell Michigan as a place to visit, it might well have the Midas touch when it comes to leisure-travel marketing and Colonial Williamsburg.
