Good news for Williamsburg VA golfers: In just two weeks folks will again be yelling "Fore!" at the former Williamsburg Country Club.
Two local Hampton Roads businessmen – Dwight Schaubach and VA Beach developer John Gibson – ( Ellis Gibson Development) bought the course last year for about $1.8 million, Schaubach said. It has been closed for about a year for upgrades and will reopen to members May 29, 2010. Schaubach said.
"We resculptured a lot of the fairways," he said. "We rebuilt all of the greens and bunkers." They also added fine-blade Georgia grass to the tee boxes and false fronts to two greens.
"If you’re a golfer," Schaubach said, "it’s a pretty place to be."
Another change: The course will now be known simply as the Williamsburg Club.
"We are not a country club," said Schaubach, owner and CEO of Johns Brothers and Bay Disposal. "We only play golf there. We don’t have swimming pools or tennis courts."
