Robert C. Middaugh Jr ,an assistant city manager for Miami Beach, Fla., was chosen as the new county administrator in a unanimous vote, according to a county news release.
Middaugh has been an assistant city manager in Miami Beach since 2001. He also worked as town manager in Davie, Fla., city manager in Wheat Ridge, Colo., was a recycling/solid waste consultant for several governments in New England, town manager in Watertown, Conn., and city administrator in Elk River, Minn.
The James City County Board of Supervisors began the formal search process about six months ago and received more than 70 resumes.
While working in Miami Beach, he worked closely with tourism partners to market and promote the destination and support large-scale events, including the Super Bowl, contemporary art shows, and food and wine festivals. He also worked as the city’s emergency management coordinator and managed several incidents, including four hurricanes.
