Merchants Square Summer Breeze Concert Series Returns to Williamsburg VA

merchants square summer breezeThe popular Merchants Square Summer Breeze Concert Series now in its 19th season features free outdoor evening concerts each Wednesday throughout July and August beginning July 7, with a kick-off concert to celebrate our nation’s birth on Saturday, July 3, 2010

On July 3,  enjoy an energetic performance from Satellite, a 12-member ensemble of the Heritage of America Band. Satellite will entertain the audience with patriotic tunes, American music and other classic renditions. The program will include  favorites including  Irving Berlin’s “God Bless America,” Glenn Miller’s “In The Mood,” and “America The Beautiful.” Concert Time : from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

In July, the Square will be filled with the sounds of military marches, big band music, and party bands. In a new twist this year, one of the July concerts will turn the spotlight on some of the many talented youth performers in our region. The August concerts continue with the excellent music of the USAF Heritage of America Band and its ensembles.

Beginning July 7, the Wednesday July concerts will run from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and feature a variety of styles of music, from big band to party band. The season kicks off with the Richmond-based Kings of Swing, and continues in successive weeks with big band sounds from the Super Jazz Band, the talented teens of the Coastland Band and friends, and perennial favorite Slapwater.

August concerts feature the return of the USAF Heritage of America Concert Band and various ensembles. The August concerts run from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

Concerts in Merchants Square are free to the public, and concertgoers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets  and a picnic dinner, or enjoy great take-out dining from one of Merchants Square’s fine restaurants!

On concert nights beginning with the July 7 concert, Merchants Square also offers children’s entertainment beginning at 6:30 p.m., including face painting, bubble making, and clowns. Convenient concert night parking is available at the Prince George Street garage and the lot at the corner of South Henry and Francis Streets.
