Free Concert at Lake Matoaka Amphitheatre

If you haven’t not had the opportunity to attend a concert at the amphitheater at Lake Matoaka (behind the William & Mary business school), it is an AWESOME venue. We have been many times and its always a great time. 
LakeMatoakaamphitheaterThe Virginia Symphony Orchestra (VSO) will perform a free concert Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. at William & Mary’s Lake Matoaka Amphitheatre. The family-friendly concert is the first in a series of five free concerts in the Hampton Roads area that the Symphony is giving as a prelude to their new season. The performance in Williamsburg is co-sponsored by the City of Williamsburg, the College of William & Mary, and William & Mary’s Student Assembly.
The Symphony’s new Associate Conductor Benjamin Rous has crafted a rousing and varied program entitled Symphonic Fireworks. Selections include John Williams’ Star Wars Suite; Rimsky-Korsakov’s Flight of the Bumblebee; Broadway highlights from Evita and Gypsy; and Tchaikovsky’s stirring 1812 Overture.

Guests are invited to bring their family and friends, picnic baskets, beach chairs and blankets.( there is seating available)

The VSO’s volunteer group in Williamsburg, the Virginia Symphony Society of Greater Williamsburg, is hosting a pre-concert family-friendly barbecue and instrument petting zoo starting at 5pm before this concert. It’s $15 for adults and free for children 12 and under. Tickets can be ordered online at http://www.vssgw.com.
