Volunteers Needed !

An exciting new sporting event is coming to Williamsburg this May!  The inaugural "Run for the Dream" 8K Run/Walk and Half Marathon will be held on May 21st and 22nd.  Both race courses begin on campus at William & Mary and run straight down Duke of Gloucester Street to the Colonial Capitol and the Governor’s Palace.  The half marathon also includes a beautiful sA_Dream_Volunteertretch along the Colonial Parkway down to the James River, and both races have a photo-finish in William & Mary’s Zable Stadium.  Our enthusiasm for this event is matched by the growing number of runners, sponsors, and volunteers eager to participate. Far in advance of the race, over 500 runners are already registered and the numbers are growing by the day!

The race is organized by An Achievable Dream, a Newport News non-profit organization that provides quality education for disadvantaged children, and proceeds will also support military Wounded Warriors programs.  Saturday, May 21st is Armed Forces Day, and we welcome the opportunity to honor these brave Americans and their fellow men and women in uniform.  Additionally, middle school students in Williamsburg/James City County and York County schools will participate in a four-month program called Fit to Run, Fit to Dream, in which they will learn how to combat childhood obesity while training for the 8K.

Information on volunteering for the Run for the Dream can be found at www.RunforAchievableDream.com. Please consider joining us and volunteer today. Your help will make a difference in the success of the event.
