U.S. News and World Report has placed the Williamsburg Inn on its 2012 list of the best hotels in the U.S. Rankings were based on editors’ evaluation of guide books, other awards and guest reviews on sites such as TripAdvisor. The Inn was ranked the best hotel in Williamsburg and second in Virginia, after the Inn at Little Washington. The Inn is the landmark property conceived and built by John D. Rockefeller Jr. and opened in April 1937. It has been the crown jewel of Colonial Williamsburg’s hotels for 75 years.
The Inn has hosted royalty, heads of state, military leaders and celebrities from all over the world, including Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip – in 1957 and again in 2007. In recognition of the 75th anniversary, Colonial Williamsburg will soon announce several special events designed to celebrate in style the birthday of one of America’s finest hotels. I have enjoyed the hospitality of the Williamsburg Inn for the past 23 years. My wife and I find the atmosphere plus the service top notch. Most of all we appreciate the fine dining and dancing in the Regency Room where the music is appropriately balanced between elegance during the year and festive during new year’s eve!
