Amtrak ticket pricing announced for Norfolk VA service

imageTickets for Amtrak service for the first Amtrak trains out Norfolk in December 2012 will go on sale at 6 a.m. today, with non-holiday prices ranging from $38 for a one-way trip to Washington to $73 to Boston.

For a comparison ,fares from Williamsburg VA are $29 to DC and  $71 to Boston.

Other details released for South Hampton Roads’ new passenger rail service were:

–Trains will begin serving Norfolk on Dec. 12. ,a full 10 months ahead of schedule

–One train will depart from the platform by Harbor Park at 4:50 a.m. on weekdays and at 6:05 a.m. on weekends. The weekday train is scheduled to arrive in Washington at 9:44 a.m.

–A train will arrive in Norfolk at 8:50 p.m. on weekdays, 11:48 p.m. on Saturdays and 8:48 p.m. on Sundays.

–The cheapest ticket to New York will cost $63; the lowest price for a trip to Philadelphia will be $51.

The prices listed above are the lowest fares available, require a reservation at least 14 days in advance and may not always be available, said Christina Leeds, an Amtrak spokeswoman. Trains out of Norfolk will have 420 coach seats, 62 business seats and a food service car.
