    • A Quick update on our Spring babies
Time for a quick update on our spring babies! We’ve currently got a dozen lambs so far in the Historic Area, with more on the way. Six ewes are still due to have little ones over the next few weeks – so keep an eye out for more lambs! When I went out to visit our...Read More »
    • Susan Higginson Nash: Pioneer Interior Decorator for the Restoration
A stylish female figure can be seen in many photographs documenting the architectural team who undertook the restoration of Williamsburg’s historic district. She often stands out as the one lone woman amidst the group of men. In some photos, she is walking the grounds of Virginia plantation homes such as Mount Airy and Shirley and...Read More »
    • Finding Tranquil Spaces
The historic area in the spring can be a little hectic. Between the excited school groups who are happily (and let’s face it, loudly) learning about our nation’s history, the gorgeous and varied dogs on DoG street, and the many other guests here to take in the beautiful weather and bright flowers… it can get...Read More »
    • Becoming Mrs. Washington: Martha the Mom
Before she was Mrs. Washington, Martha was Mrs. Custis. It’s well known that Martha and George Washington were not blessed with any children of their own during their 40-year marriage (theories abound…we’ll get to that another time). Martha did have four children, though, during her first marriage to Daniel Parke Custis. This period of Martha’s...Read More » […]

New High School Lacrosse Team in Williamsburg

Many thanks to Coach Charlie Turner for his efforts in bringing a boys high school lacrosse team to Williamsburg VA

imageSpring signals the return of baseball, track, tennis and soccer for many greater Williamsburg athletes. But for a continually growing segment of the population, lacrosse is becoming the sport of choice for the warmer weather.

Walsingham is perhaps the only Williamsburg school that has been able to meet the demands of establishing a lacrosse program. With a boys varsity team in place, the Trojans introduced a middle school girls team this spring.

And the Williamsburg Warriors Lacrosse League has also been a great option for youth interested in the sport.

But there has still been little opportunity for high school boys. Realizing this, a few prospective players and coaches banded together with the common interest of forming a new team in Williamsburg. After several years of planning and with the support of the Hampton Roads Lacrosse League, a chapter of U.S. Lacrosse, the Williamsburg JV High School team makes its debut this spring.

The squad, better known as the Royals, is made up of ninth, 10th and 11th grade boys from Warhill, Jamestown and Lafayette high schools. And the team includes both players with experience in the sport and some that are brand new. The team will compete with high school teams that include Grafton, Menchville, Poquoson ,Tabb , York, Cox , Currituck ,First Colonial, Grassfield ,Great Bridge, Hickory , Kellam, Maury, Princess Anne from the York County, Newport News, Poquoson, Va Beach, Chesapeake and Outer Banks areas

Charlie Turner the Royals head coach  is thrilled for this lacrosse expansion in greater Williamsburg.
