With a motorcade and processional typically reserved for rock stars, The River Room at Governor’s Land played host Thursday to an elaborate ceremony for which a nationally known band was the hired entertainment rather the focal point.
The occasion, which spans three states over four days and is expected to have 600 invited guests, was a griha shanti, the first of a series of events that comprise a traditional Hindu wedding. The music came from 1970s pop-funk group Kool and the Gang, best known for the 1980 hit, "Celebration.
