The Virginia Symphony Orchestra returns to Yorktown Saturday, August 30

The Virginia Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Benjamin Rous, returns to Yorktown at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2014 for its 18th annual outdoor concert. This year’s concert will be held at Riverwalk Landing on Water Street in historic Yorktown. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early with lawn chairs and picnic baskets. image

A just-for-fun blue ribbon judging for the most creative picnic set-up will be awarded prior to the concert. The award-winning Fifes and Drums of York Town will perform a pre-concert show at 6 p.m.

The symphony concert is funded by community contributors from organizations, businesses and individuals along with sponsors, York County, York County Arts Commission and the Virginia Commission for the Arts, whose financial support makes it possible. The volunteer Celebrate Yorktown Committee annually raises $24,000 to present this free-to-the-public evening of music for the enjoyment of the community.

Event parking information is as follows:

• Plan to arrive early as parking is expected to fill up in Yorktown.

• Event parking will be available at the York County Courts and Office Complex, Administration and York Hall buildings on Ballard Street, and the Riverwalk Landing Parking Terrace on Water Street.

• Please bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating.

BRET MICHAELS AND MERCYME KICKOFF BUSCH GARDENS® LIVE AND GLORY AT THE GARDENS™ CONCERT SERIES

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 10, 2014) – Busch Gardens® is turning up the volume this summer with the return of its popular concert series, Busch Gardens® LIVE and Glory at the Gardens™.
Legendary rocker and reality TV star Bret Michaels will kick off Busch Gardens LIVE on May 4. Michaels’ 25-plus year career includes hits like “Talk Dirty To Me” and “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” as well as solo hits “Nothing To Lose,” and his new single currently on the radio, “A Beautiful Soul.”
Glory at the Gardens begins May 11 with a performance by Christian band MercyMe. Best known for their mega hit “I Can Only Imagine,” the Grammy nominated, American Music Award and eight-time Dove award-winning band released their ninth album, Welcome to the New, on April 8. Additional concert dates will be announced soon.
Busch Gardens LIVE and Glory at the Gardens concerts are held at Busch Gardens’ Royal Palace Theatre. The theater’s gates open approximately two hours before the scheduled 7 p.m. performances. All Busch Gardens concerts are included with park admission. For guests’ convenience complimentary tickets are distributed throughout the day at the park’s Guest Relations building. Tickets are distributed one-per-person on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. All party members must be present to receive tickets. Tickets are required for entry to the concert. Rhythms on the Riverwalk coming in September 2012 to Yorktown

York County has announced their Eighth Annual Rhythms on the Riverwalk concert series, to be held this fall at Riverwalk Landing in historic Yorktown. The weekly concert series will take place on the performance stage, overlooking the York River.

This five-week concert series will once again feature some of the finest in jazz and big band music the area has to offer.

In addition, country music will once again be featured in this year’s (2012) line-up.

The series will be held on Fridays from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. beginning September 7 and running through October 5.

Virginia Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Benjamin Rous, returns to Historic Yorktown at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3 for its 15th annual outdoor concert at the Yorktown Victory Monument on Historic Main Street.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive early with lawn chairs and picnic baskets. A just-for-fun blue ribbon judging for the most creative picnic set-up will be awarded prior to the concert.   • Due to limited capacity, heavy pedestrian and vehicular traffic, the wait lines for the trolleys after the concert may be longer.

Shagging on the Riverwalk is a  summer concert series held at Riverwalk Landing in Historic Yorktown and features some of the area’s finest beach music, Motown, oldies and more. Guests have the opportunity to practice the “shag” on the large outdoor dance floor, and all are welcome to bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating. The event is free and open to the public.

This gathering is truly fun and exciting for anyone who really appreciates the shag. Back by popular demand for a sixth straight year, York County is excited to offer the 2011 Shagging on the Riverwalk Beach Music Concert Series. I guess I am showing my age as I remember him playing at a high school prom when I was growing up in VA Beach.

This years seven-week concert series will feature some of the areas top acts playing beach favorites, oldies, Motown and more.
