Howl O Scream opens Sept 2014 at Busch Gardens Williamsburg

The cursed will take over Busch Gardens Williamsburg when Howl-O-Scream® opens Sept. 12, 2014 The Williamsburg Virginia theme park will present an all-new Terror-tory™ and will revive a fan favorite show to celebrate the 16th year of this popular fall event.
Guests will notice the change almost immediately when they travel through the park’s haunted villages beginning at 6 p.m. A new song was produced this year to coincide with the park’s frightful offering. Rumor has it the song curses its listeners who must survive a night of paranormal horrors at Howl-O-Scream to lift it.
Entertainment Vice President Scott Gasparich has one piece of advice for guests when the song plays over the park’s sound system.
“Don’t listen,” he said. “The song is an integral part of this year’s Howl-O-Scream offerings. It is said that strange things start happening when guests hear that haunting melody.”
Playing on the popularity of last year’s addition of Terror-tories™, the park’s scare experts are developing a new area in the park’s New France section called Wendigo Woods™. This new Terror-tory explores the frightful nature of the unknown.
“The startles in Wendigo Woods are more psychological than physical,” Gasparich said. “Sometimes it’s what you don’t see that scares you the most.”
Wendigo Woods joins the park’s four other Terror-tories and six haunted houses comprising the park’s main Howl-O-Scream thrill elements. Other seasonal park offerings include Vampire Vogue™, a new merchandise shop in the Oktoberfest section of the park; dining and spirit options like Pirate Baarrrgh™ in the Italy village and Igor’s Fright Feast™ in Oktoberfest as well as live entertainment inside the park’s performance venues.
As the park’s teams of startle experts finalize details of Wendigo Woods, another production team is putting a new twist on a popular live production that has been silent since 2011.
Monster Stomp™ on Ripper Row is a modern rock-and-rhythm spectacular featuring Jack the Ripper in an electrifying percussion, dynamic dance and sensational singing revue in the park’s Globe Theatre.

“Our guests tell us time and time again to bring back Monster Stomp,” said Park President Carl Lum. “Monster Stomp on Ripper Row is a complete revision to the classic production with high-tech thrills that can only be created on the Globe Theatre stage.”
Like the rest of Howl-O-Scream, the Busch Gardens’ team is ramping up the thrills of every element in this Howl-O-Scream production and encourages parents to think twice before bringing their children to the show.
“Monster Stomp on Ripper Row is not for the faint of heart,” said show production manager Phil Raybourn. “Monster Stomp in 2014 has a much darker theme than any production we’ve ever produced.”
Video-mapping technology, 3-D soundscapes and other technology available inside the Globe Theatre transports the audience to London’s East End where the Ripper’s horrifying acts occurred.
Parents and guardians should consider the park’s elevated scare factor when deciding to visit Busch Gardens with young children during Howl-O-Scream. At the stroke of 6 p.m., the ghouls and haunts come out to play and Busch Gardens becomes a seriously scary place.
Guests who want the best deal on Howl-O-Scream tickets can lock in a $10/month annual pass featuring Busch Gardens’ EZ Pay Price Lock Guarantee and enjoy unlimited visits to Busch Gardens this fall and into 2015. An annual pass is valid for one year from the date of purchase. Pass members also enjoy discounts to Christmas Town and in-park discounts on food and merchandise. Christmas Town Opens This Friday at Busch Gardens Williamsburg

clip_image002[4]

Nov. 19, 2013—All throughout Busch Gardens®, hundreds of “elves” are scurrying to prepare the park for Christmas Town™, which opens Friday, Nov. 22.  They may not have pointy ears and jingle bells on their feet like the elves recently featured in the #sELFies hashtag on the park’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram channels, but their work is equally as important.

In late October, Busch Gardens wrapped up its annual Howl-O-Scream event and now the park has taken on a stunning new look for the holidays. Teams of fast-paced “elves” began illuminating the park’s 300 acres of holiday fun. Down came the spider webs and pumpkins and in their place, park employees  began assembling  more than six million lights, hundreds of wreathes, garlands and lighted trees, including O Tannenbaum, a fifty-foot tree whose  many twinkling lights dance in time to music.  From big changes to tiny details, it takes help from all park teams to get Busch Gardens into the holiday spirit.

clip_image004[4]Shops full of toys for good girls and boys start to sparkle with a little “magic” from the Merchandising team, including Assistant Visual Merchandiser Allison Duncan. Duncan, who recently moved to Virginia from North Carolina, is directing a team who is in charge of store decorations in the England, Italy, Scotland and New France areas of the park.

“It’s my first time at Christmas Town so I don’t know what to expect,” said Duncan, “but I think our team’s done a good job executing the designs we’ve developed .”

Some stores, like the Emporium shop will be getting yuletide makeovers. “This year it’s going to be very Victorian and just gorgeous,” said Duncan, hinting that the store is likely to be her favorite and a hit with guests as well.

In the bakery, the culinary teams are preparing to bake cookies for Santa as well as park guests who will visit Christmas Town.

“We’re doing a whole lot of cake and baked goods testing,” said Durell Council, a supervisor at the bakery. “We have newclip_image006[4] menus in our restaurants and Christmas Town breads and cakes to prepare.”

Along with gingerbread cookies, snowman cupcakes and red velvet cake, guests visiting Christmas Town will be able to satisfy their sweet tooth with a new Black Forest cake dripping with chocolate ganache and topped with a chocolate-covered cherry.

For Maria Rubino, an entertainment technician from New York working on the installation of Christmas Town, a day’s work may require hanging wreaths and stringing garland or checking light bulbs on Big Ben.

“During Christmas Town I also maintain the lights by walking through the park troubleshooting and repairing decorations,” said Rubino, “so I get to see Christmas Town from a guest perspective too.”

clip_image008[4]Rubino said she is most looking forward to guest’s reactions to the holiday celebration, “because as fun as it is putting up all these decorations, I love the reactions from people when they see everything, especially the kids.”

“I’m so happy to be here now working with this team,” said Rubino, “because we really do feel like little elves.”

Allison Duncan, Durell Council and Maria Rubino represent the hundreds of the team members involved in transforming the scares of Howl-O-Scream into the winter wonderland of Christmas Town.  The lights of Christmas Town turn on Nov. 22 and twinkle select days through Dec 31.

Pay for a day and enjoy unlimited access to the holiday celebration with a Christmas Town Fun Card.  For more information, including a complete operating schedule, visit www.christmastown.com/va.

New ride unveiled for Water Country USA in 2014

Water Country USA’s guests are in for an epic journey on the park’s newest thrill ride – Colossal Curl™, set to debut at Virginia’s largest water park this spring. Park officials announced details about the attraction today via Busch Gardens’ official YouTube channel.

Visit www.youtube.com/buschgardensva to watch the official video as well as teaser videos the park released over the past several weeks leading to today’s announcement. Make sure to click on the subscribe button to stay up-to-date on Colossal Curl developments.

True to its name, this mega slide promises to deliver a high-adrenaline, action-packed adventure. Colossal Curl features a funnel element that will swish and swirl guests before whisking them through the ride’s enclosed colorful tubes on their way to a wave element that hurtles them high above the park.True to its name, this mega slide promises to deliver a high-adrenaline, action-packed adventure. Colossal Curl features a funnel element that will swish and swirl guests before whisking them through the ride’s enclosed colorful tubes on their way to a wave element that hurtles them high above the park.

“Hanging ten will have a whole new meaning for Colossal Curl riders,” said Larry Giles, vice president of engineering for Busch Gardens® and Water Country USA®. “There is nothing else like it in North America.”

Colossal Curl is being built near the park’s main guest entrance. Construction will begin by the end of the year. By spring, many of the ride’s features will be visible to guests as they arrive at the park.

Water Country USA Vice President Jeff Thomas said the company decided to build Colossal Curl because of increased guest interest for the park’s first family thrill attraction. Colossal Curl will have the same 48-inch ride height as Vanish Point®, which opened in 2011 and has thrilled guests with its drop-away floors and speed slides.

“Vanish Point was our first big thrill slide that had riders saying ‘Wow’ and Colossal Curl will now will get the same reaction,” Thomas added.

Theme park fans began speculating about a new attraction on Oct. 28 when the first of three teaser videos appeared on Water Country USA and Busch Gardens official social media sites. Click here to view the videos.

Colossal Curl will be making a splash at Water Country USA in spring 2014.  For more information, visit www.watercountryusa.com/colossalcurl.

Busch Gardens Williamsburg launches new mobile site

Busch Gardens WilliamsburgBusch Gardens Williamsburg has a new mobile website providing guests and fans with a convenient and easy way to plan their vacations and purchase and redeem tickets directly from their mobile devices.

SeaWorld and Busch Gardens are some of the first in the theme park industry to effectively use mobile sites with geo-location capabilities. When a guest is near one of the SeaWorld or Busch Gardens parks and connects to the website, the guest’s phone will immediately default to driving directions. However, if the guest is actually in the park, the site will automatically default to a park map so they can find their next adventure without missing a beat. Receiving the most relevant content, products, offers and promotions based on their location to the parks are just some of the many intuitive features mobile users can now experience.

The sites provide guests with a simplified mobile purchase experience with images, text and easy steps for the entire process. Once the purchase process is complete, guests will receive their digital admission ticket directly on their phone, allowing them to proceed directly to the front gate for entry to the park.

Busch Gardens guests can not only purchase single day tickets, but also multi-park and season passes, allowing guests to save money and time. Based on the tickets purchased, the sites will suggest additional experiences and adventures, including behind-the-scenes tours, up-close animal interactions or dining options to make their visit to the park even more memorable.

The new sites were designed to work with Apple, Android and Windows smart phones.

In other news for 2013 @ Busch Gardens , coming this year will be the first ever food festival.  During this immersive event you’ll find special and unique foods and beverages. Enjoy the authentic tastes of Europe paired with family-friendly activities and entertainment that will make this event as fun as it is delicious.

Verbolten Coaster Opens to the Public

The anticipation is over. On May 18, guests will finally experience Verbolten, the most technologically advanced roller coaster ever built at Busch Gardens. The anticipation is over. On May 18, guests will finally experience Verbolten, the most technologically advanced roller coaster ever built at Busch Gardens.

Verbolten is not a typical roller coaster. It is an immersive thematic attraction that sends passengers twisting and turning through the verboten Black Forest. Verbolten’s low 48-inch ride-height requirement and exhilarating but not overpowering ride experience, will appeal to extreme coaster aficionados as well as to parents who want to introduce their children to the thrill of a roller coaster ride.

“Verbolten is a next generation roller coaster that incorporates the latest in coaster technology with a storyline inspired by Grimm’s fairy tales. From Verbolten’s unique free-fall drop to its multiple launch elements, Busch Gardens’ newest thrill attraction is destined to be a favorite among coaster enthusiasts of all ages,” said Park President Carl Lum.

Guests interested in learning more about the technology behind Verbolten’s unique ride elements can sign up for daily behind-the-scenes coaster tours. Tour guides will provide little-known facts about the ride and let guests peek inside the special effects building that houses Verbolten’s Black Forest. Tours will start soon. Interested guests should check www.buschgardens.com/va for a complete park tour schedule.

Verbolten is the capstone attraction of a two-year rejuvenation project in the park’s Oktoberfest village. Mäch Tower, the park’s 240-foot drop tower, joins the launch coaster as the park’s newest thrill attractions. An award-winning pretzel-themed restaurant, and a new show inside Germany’s Das Festhaus, round out the largest capital expansion in park history.

Sneak Peak at Verbolten Coaster at Busch Gardens Williamsburg VA

One of Verbolten’s main surprises is a free-fall drop hidden within the ride’s massive indoor special-effects building. Larry Giles, Busch Gardens’ vice president of design and engineering, promises this innovative drop will take riders’ breath away.Busch Gardens opened the construction gates today for an exclusive first look at Verbolten℠, the park’s new multi-launch, indoor/outdoor roller coaster. When the coaster debuts this spring, it will feature design elements never before seen in the United States.

One of Verbolten’s main surprises is a free-fall drop hidden within the ride’s massive indoor special-effects building. Larry Giles, Busch Gardens’ vice president of design and engineering, promises this innovative drop will take riders’ breath away.

“It will be like someone pulled the track out from under you,” he said of the sensation riders will feel when the entire train drops 16 feet in complete darkness.

The drop’s design uses high-powered magnets to suspend the coaster train and a special section of track at the top of the special-effects building. To the surprise of riders, the magnets release and the train and track drop to the floor. They come to rest momentarily before the train is launched out of the dark Black Forest at speeds approaching 55 mph.

Other highlighted design features include a covered bridge that plays into the ride’s Black Forest-inspired theme. The bridge is one of the final elements of the attraction and sits atop a nearly 90-foot drop over Busch Gardens’ Rhine River. The drop pays homage to the final drop experienced on The Big Bad Wolf, which previously operated on the site. Recreating the drop also allowed design engineers to minimize Verbolten’s environmental impact by reusing the existing concrete foundations along the banks of the river.

Verbolten is unlike other coasters at the Virginia theme park. The ride narrative draws guests in from the time they enter the ride’s station house until they see their expression on the on-board video system when they exit the ride.

As riders enter the ride area, they will meet a German brother and sister team who run a small inn and visitor center at the edge of the Black Forest. Dire warnings of supernatural happenings within the forest dare riders to enter. Brave passengers are whisked away for a scenic tour of the German countryside only to fall into the clutches of the Black Forest’s inhabitants when they make a verboten detour.

Audio-visual special effects, scenic elements and other controls inside the darkened special-effects building create the illusion of a forest that has come to life. Verbolten’s two electromagnetic launches provide a zero to 55 mph rush of adrenaline at key times during the ride to advance the ride’s narrative.

Verbolten is the capstone attraction of a two-year rejuvenation project in Busch Gardens’ Oktoberfest village. Mach Tower, the park’s 240-foot drop tower, joins the launch coaster as the park’s newest thrill attractions. A new pretzel restaurant and new performance spaces that opened in 2011 completes the Oktoberfest village transformation.

New Coaster @ Busch Gardens Williamsburg On Track For Spring Opening

Verbolten Construction on Schedule and Ready to Open Late Spring

Busch Gardens Williamsburg, reached a major milestone Jan. 17 when a team of engineers and contractors bolted the final piece of Verbolten’s 2,835 feet of steel track into place. When it’s complete, Verbolten will take riders on an adrenaline-filled adventure through two high-speed electromagnetic launches, stunning sensory effects and a dizzying array of twists and turns for an out-of-this-world coaster experience. When it’s complete, Verbolten will take riders on an adrenaline-filled adventure through two high-speed electromagnetic launches, stunning sensory effects and a dizzying array of twists and turns for an out-of-this-world coaster experience.

“Work on Verbolten is progressing on schedule,” said Larry Giles, Busch Gardens’ vice president of engineering. “Completing the track is a major achievement. We still have a lot of work to do on the ride’s theme elements and special effects, but we anticipate the ride will be ready for a late spring opening.”

Construction on Verbolten began last summer. Crews worked day and night to prepare the grounds for Busch Gardens’ newest thrill attraction. Like the park’s other coasters, Verbolten uses the park’s natural hills and valleys to create a one-of-a-kind guest experience. The team poured concrete support structures and began installing the track last fall. They also constructed a special effects enclosure that conceals much of the coaster’s theme elements.

Howl-O-Scream Opens Sept 23, 2011 @ Busch Gardens Williamsburg

imageYesterday Busch Gardens Williamsburg pass members were given an exclusive preview of the 13th anniversary of Howl-O-Scream, which begins Sept. 23.

VP of Entertainment Scott Gasparich introduced pass members to a menagerie of creepy characters representing the Dark Side of the Gardens that make up this year’s Howl-O-Scream. Most haunted houses, scare zones and shows are new, Gasparich said, while the rest are resurrected guest favorites.

“Busch Gardens pulled out all the stops for Howl-O-Scream’s 13th anniversary,” Gasparich said. “There is nothing in this year’s event that hasn’t been intensified, including new takes on old favorites.”

Great new haunted houses like Dead Line offer a modern spin on some classic scares. Howl-O-Scream fans suffering from coulrophobia take note that the evil clowns are back and have taken over Festa Italia in Fear Fair and Grin and Scare It. Finally, Fiends is back in the Festhaus by popular demand. Gasparich and his creative team have breathed new life into Busch Gardens’ classic show that debuted during the first Howl-O-Scream in 1999. It is always “Code Pink” in Dr. Weirdstein’s laboratory, and the good doctor is once again feverishly working on his latest and greatest invention.

Howl-O-Scream at Busch Gardens Williamsburg begins Sept. 23 and continues every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through Oct. 30, 2011.

NOTE:  Too scary for your family?

Visit during the day to experience family-friendly rides, Sesame Street Forest of Fun and Land of the Dragons children’s areas, and up-close animal encounters perfect for fall fun. Once the clock strikes 6 p.m., the Howl-O-Scream scares begin which may not be suitable for young children.

Busch Gardens Howl O Scream tickets are $63.99 for adults. There are several options to save money:

Multiple visits:

Busch Gardens Announces Verbolten As New Roller Coaster For 2012 Season

imageBusch Gardens’ officials unveiled the name of the Williamsburg theme park’s 2012 roller coaster during an exclusive pass-member appreciation event Saturday morning.

Verboltenoffers the latest in roller coaster technology,” said Park President Carl Lum while addressing an enthusiastic crowd inside Busch Gardens’ 2,000-seat dining facility. “When Verbolten opens in spring 2012, coaster fans will feel the exhilaration of multiple launches and a few surprises that can’t be found anywhere else in the United States.”

Saturday’s announcement naming Verbolten as the Williamsburg park’s new roller coaster ended months of speculation among coaster fans who have been eagerly awaiting official news about the new thrill ride.

imageIn addition to the name, park officials unveiled a few technical details about the roller coaster and a way for fans to learn more about Verbolten over the next several months. Guests with smartphones or other Internet-connected devices can download exclusive coaster details using a unique Quick Response Code, a.k.a. a QR code. Content will be updated regularly, but it can only be accessed by reading the in-park QR code.

Saturday’s event also offered pass members an exclusive preview of the 13th anniversary of Howl-O-Scream, which begins Sept. 23.

Busch Gardens’ Mäch Tower Is Open

Mäch Tower's℠ first riders experience the thrill of Busch Gardens' newest attraction situated in the park’s redesigned Oktoberfest village. The tallest ride in the park, Mäch Tower lifts 30 riders nearly 240 feet and drops them at breathtaking speed8.19.2011 Busch Gardens’ Mäch Tower officially opened today, ending months of anticipation from guests eager to ride the parks’ newest and tallest thrill attraction.

“We know our guests have been eagerly awaiting the debut of Mäch Tower,” said Park President Carl Lum. “During the manufacturer’s initial testing, some mechanical issues were discovered that caused the delay. Now that the ride is open, we are excited to share this amazing experience with our guests.”

Mäch Tower offers an incredible view as its 30-seat rotating carriage climbs nearly 240 feet above the park’s Oktoberfest village. Thrill elements experienced during the ride keep riders from becoming complacent on their journey to the top. Once riders get a few seconds to take in the view, the carriage plummets at breathtaking speed straight down the massive maypole-themed tower attraction.

“We’re pleased our guests will be able to ride Mäch Tower before the summer comes to a close,” said Lum. “We allowed our guests a sneak peek earlier this week and the overwhelming comments have been, ‘it’s been worth the wait.’”

Ray Beyer and his son Brandon were some of the lucky guests who experienced Mäch Tower during the sneak peek.

“I thought it was great,” said Brandon, adding that the drop took his breath away. “Not being able to look down sort of freaked me out.”

Mäch Tower anchors a newly rejuvenated Oktoberfest village featuring new game areas, performance spaces and a pretzel bakery serving some of the best pretzel-themed cuisine in the region.
